What’s in my bag

It must be the trend to post “What’s in my bag”. It’s quiet and peaceful now and here comes my entry.  I’m such a good girl to fulfill your request… you know who you are. =P

Some girls just love their bags and they keep changing it to match with their outfit. I guess I’m not them. Here’s my current “take me everywhere” bag until I find the next one/ got the urge to transfer everything into another bag. It’s a “fit as much as I could, put on the floor and won’t heart pain” Agnes b. It’s surprisingly hardy to matter how I abuse it. The shiny material is a passe but what the hell… who cares!

The trash bag

Turkey stuffing! How fat it looks like.

Exposed!

The bag has identity crisis.

It’s stuffed with mumsy survival kit – nappy (oh forgot about the newborn one), flannel, spare clothes, my Panasonic camera (on it’s last leg) and a United Colour of Benetton shopping cum whatsoever bag. These are the “loose” items packed “around” the Muji handbag organizer (the smaller bag in my big bag).

The mumsy stuff

Inside Muji handbag organizer are the basics – cards organizer (I don’t know how I ended up with so many membership cards… it must be a SG thing maybe one day the veggie stall at the market will give us one too), purse, iPhone cum shut the kids up “toy”, wipe everything baby wipes, tissue paper and hand sanitizer.

The survival stuff

I have a bit of “vanity” stuffed in the smaller compartments of the bag organizer… well key, watch, pen and sweet don’t count. Chanel lipstick, Sugar lip treatment, Banana Boat lip treatment, Estee Lauder lipgloss, two sample size Dior sunscreen, some stringy thingy to tie my hair, hair clip and plasters.

A bit of vanity

I’m very fragile aka clumsy that’s why I keep plasters in my purse, bag and even in the car. Well most of the time they are given out to little kids who have a little accident at the parks.

When I know that I’ll be taking a lot of photos, I’ll remove the Panasonic and change it with my DSLR. Oooh btw, sometimes the stuff it all bag is stuffed with an iPad too.

Yup! I’m carrying a big rock around.

I’m Spring

Long overdue post. Colour does wonder to complement our skin tone. I always have this uncertainty when I go shopping – does this colour look right on me? Do I look dull? In the past I had my shopping buddy who would tell me the absolute truth. Now that I shop alone all the time, I do make mistakes… especially under the deceiving lights in the shops as well as the fitting rooms.

To avoid making more expensive mistakes and save time on being indecisive, I signed up for a colour analysis session with an image consultant last year. People are categorized according to the four seasons. It was absolutely interesting. Apparently most Japanese are Summer, South East Asians with yellow undertone are Spring, while Caucasians are divided into Winter and Autumn. Absolute white and silver complements Winter while the rest of the seasons are good with gold.

Apart of looking at the skin colour, analysis was done on the colour of my eyes and the patterns. There was another European lady in the same session and her eyes have different patterns. To show the impact of different tones of colours and to confirm the analysis, clothes with different tones of the same colour were draped over my shoulder. It was amazing to see red with blue undertone makes me look old and dull while red with yellow undertone brighten up my face. When both colours were draped side by side, I could see that the side of the face with red yellow undertone had a face lift! Amazing! Apparently with the right colours, it will reflect light on the chin and undereyes. The effect was like the glow from having a very good facial.

I was given this colour fan for my future reference. I have green veins, yellow undertone and brown eyes, I’m Absolute Spring whereby the colours of the first two rows suit be best! As I age, I can gradually graduate to the colours in lighter intensity. The colour fan applies to cosmetics and accessories as well!

This one is used to find complement colours to complete an outfit. In other words, it’s used to avoid looking like a xmas tree or showing up in a party with the most surprisingly put together outfit in shocking colours. It’s advisable to have max 3 colours in an outfit.

So far I’ve found it quite useful. As the consultant said, everyone has a rough idea on what works best but they just aren’t sure. Now I can play with more colours in my wardrobe!

Bad Day

Today’s theme song is Bad Day. Bad things are happening to me. One after another.

A thorn pricked my right middle finger and it bled profusely. Haven’t seen myself bled that much from a stupid prick. That happened in the morning.

Somehow pulled my left arm trying to pick up my little Cur. Can’t do Chicken Dance now. My wing won’t flap. I can’t lift my arm and it’s getting worse.

Spent one whole hour ransacking through drawer after drawer looking for my Malaysian bank ATM card. Couldn’t believe I went through the bag cards thrice… thrice… and found it at the end. I swear I knew it’s there… always in the same bag and I didn’t see it!

Then… the oven didn’t leave me alone and I accidentally touched the top element and burnt myself. Thank you very much. That’s my evening. Oh yes and I screwed up dinner. The simplest fried long beans for the kids somehow turned out yucky. The same for the supposed to be yummilicious green tip mussels. Leave me alone!

Just as I thought it’s about the end of the day. I should be fine. I found there is a mysterious swelling in between my right index and middle fingers.

I thought I should take it easy. Take a shower and relax. Lie on the bed and call it a day. Hell… a bloody disintegrated cockroach body is in the drawer where I put my stash of beauty stuff. God knows how long it’s been there. Why didn’t I see it in the past few days? Is that because I normally don’t have my glasses on until I leave the bathroom?

It’s still sitting there… I’ll have to disinfect everything later on and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that nothing bad will happen to me. I won’t touch anything sharp. I’ve made sure the floor is dry. And I won’t even try to edit a video or run iOS upgrade tonight.

Oooh… did I mentioned I have a bad sore back after picking up my kiddo?

Butter cookies

Baked some butter cookies and just as I thought it’s going to be another joke… it turned out GOOD!

Butter Cookies (adapted from Food.com)
Ingredients
110gm unsalted butter
90gm sugar
A pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
1 cup of all purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Beat butter, sugar, salt and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
  2. Mix in egg yolk and continue beating.
  3. Add flour and knead into dough.
  4. Wrap in cling wrap and put into the fridge for a few hours or freeze it. (I skipped this step)
  5. Preheat oven to 165 degrees. Roll and shape cookies as desired. Bake until cookies start to turn brown.

I find rolling it into small balls and find something with a flat base like a glass, wrap the surface with cling wrap, put some pressure on the balls and it will flatten the cookies perfectly. This recipe yields 30 small cookies.

V-day special menu… for the kids!
